From January 1 to June 30, 2019, Russia will impose quantitative restrictions on the export of birch logs. Birch logs can only be exported from Russia within the quotas allocated to the Russian industrial and trade sector. From January 1 to June 30, 2019, a total of 567,000 cubic meters of birch logs were licensed from Russia. The restricted export birch logs are 1 meter long and 15 cm in diameter. In order to obtain quotas, a one-time permit from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia is required. The license can be issued electronically by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia. In this case, there is no need to submit a permit in paper form to the customs authorities. In 2018, in the jurisdiction of Birobidzhan Customs, 18 participants in foreign economic activities filed for the export of birch wood to China. From January to November, the export of birch was 74,700 cubic meters, an increase of 24% over the same period in 2017.
