Brazil's Deforestation Rate Has Increased By Nearly 14%
Dec 21, 2018

According to data from the Brazilian government's special investigation agency, from August 2017 to July 2018, the rate of deforestation in Brazil increased by nearly 14%, and the area of forest that was leveled was 7,900 square kilometers.

Asturi, public policy coordinator of the environmental protection organization Brazil, said: "This is almost equal to the removal of 1 million football fields in just one year. Every year we receive news that the forest has been illegally felled."

Astrini pointed out that Brazil's elected President Bolsonaro has threatened to relax the environmental protection regulations, and if so, the forest damage will become worse.
